Stockwood Debate Society Returns to the Cambridge Union
On 21st February 2026, The Stockwood Park Academy’s Debate Society returned to the historic Cambridge Union for another inspiring day of competition.
Organised by Miss Khan and supported by Mrs Changara and Mr Sudbery, the visit showcased not only our students’ growing confidence and skill, but also their integrity, ambition and camaraderie. As the only school from Luton competing, our sixth-form debaters represented Stockwood with pride, balancing intellectual rigour with encouragement, respect and true sportsmanship.
In every round, they demonstrated our core values of Excellence, Responsibility and Compassion, striving not just for victory but for meaningful, thoughtful debate. Moments such as breaking fast together during Ramadan, celebrating successes and building friendships with peers from across the country highlighted the strength and unity of our community.
Team Achievements
The top overall speaker achieved 309 points (average 77.25). Our students performed impressively close to this benchmark:
Twin Arguments – Navya Ahuja & Ammara Tariq
• 1st in their second round, 2nd in their final round
• 289 points each (average 72.25)
Veritas Duo – Sajida Khanom & Tianna Craythorne
• 2nd in their third round, delivering particularly strong POIs
Tiocfaidh ár lá – Frankie Castleman & Emmanuella Menda
• 2nd in their second round
• Emmanuella ranked in the top 60 of 113 speakers with 290 points (average 72.50)
Competing on such a prestigious stage, our debaters demonstrated resilience, talent and determination. The Debate Society continues to grow as a central part of Stockwood’s culture — empowering students to recognise the strength of their voices and the impact they can make.
