Mental Health & Wellbeing

At The Stockwood Park Academy we recognise that for pupils to thrive, their mental health needs need to be recognised and supported. We are working hard to embed this into our school culture by offering a structured pathway of tiered interventions which include:

  • A designated School Counsellor available to provide counselling sessions when need is identified.
  • Direct links and regular consultations with CAMHS (the NHS’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service).
  • Access to wellbeing programmes and mentoring schemes including, ELSA, CHUMS, Youth Partnership and Youthscape.

As well as:

  • Psychoeducation through PHSE lessons, assemblies, visual signposting around school and regular events to raise awareness of Mental Health and Wellbeing.
  • Lunchtime Wellbeing drop-in clinics, focusing on wellbeing, mindfulness, resilience, also providing signposting to local and national support services.
  • ‘Wellbeing Wednesday’s’, an enrichment programme of lunchtime and after school clubs including Gardening, Boxing, Expressive Arts, Wellbeing Drop In and spending time with our school chickens at Chicken club.
  • Access to a team of Mental Health First Aider’s within the school.
  • Mental Health Champions - pupils from Years 8 to 11 who are trained to recognise a wide range of mental health conditions and develop the skills to offer meaningful support to their peers.

Our aim is to identify emerging mental health needs at the earliest opportunity within our pupil community, then provide timely and appropriate support.

If you are a parent or carer concerned about the wellbeing of a pupil, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the child’s Head of Year or contact the school safeguarding team directly.

Please also see below for local and national services, offering advice and support for young people and parents/carers.
