Debating at The Stockwood Park Academy

Debate Sparks Big Ideas at Stockwood Park Academy – A Proud Luton School Moment

At our local Luton school, we’re proud to offer more than just a strong academic foundation—we also cultivate vital life skills through exciting enrichment opportunities like debate.

This week, our thriving debate society tackled the motion: "The House Proposes a Four-Day School Week." We were thrilled to welcome guest speakers representing both sides of the argument. On The House, we had Mr Verma, Mr Ashraf, and Mr O'Sullivan. The Opposition was passionately defended by Mr Humayun.

The debate was both entertaining and thought-provoking, giving our students a fantastic platform to practice respectful discourse, critical thinking, and the art of engaging in good-faith argument—skills we believe are essential for active, informed members of the local community.

Following a lively and respectful exchange, students cast their votes for the best speakers and the overall winning team:

Best Speaker - The House: Ramneek & Mr O’Sullivan
Best Speaker - The Opposition: Aliyu & Mr Humayun
Winning Team: THE OPPOSITION

Events like this showcase why Stockwood Park Academy is considered a good school by students, families, and the wider Luton community. As a proud local high school, we’re committed to building confident, articulate learners who are ready to lead.

Thank you to everyone who took part—and especially to Miss Khan for coordinating such a successful event. We can’t wait to see what’s next for our student debaters!
