Celebrating Black History Month and Nigerien Independence Day at The Stockwood Park Academy – A Good Luton School
At The Stockwood Park Academy, we are proud to be known as a good Luton school that celebrates diversity, inclusion, and community spirit. As a local school in Luton, we value opportunities that help our students grow into confident, compassionate individuals who understand and appreciate the world around them.
This October, our school is honouring Black History Month with enthusiasm and purpose. We are sharing daily inspirational quotes in reception to encourage reflection and learning, extending the celebration beyond October. Alongside this, students will take part in engaging activities and workshops throughout the month. This year’s Black History Month theme, “Standing Firm in Power & Pride,” aligns closely with our school values.
By standing firm in power, we remind our students of their strength, resilience, and ability to create positive change in their community. This message helps every student, especially those from underrepresented backgrounds, to build confidence, self-belief, and leadership skills.
Pride is equally important, as it inspires our students to celebrate their heritage and contributions to society. At The Stockwood Park Academy, we encourage pride in every student’s identity, fostering belonging, respect, and appreciation for diversity. Together, we build a community that recognises the struggles and achievements of those who came before us.
The theme “Standing Firm in Power & Pride” also opens conversations about diversity, inclusion, and social justice—values that lie at the heart of our Luton school community. By engaging with powerful stories and experiences, our students learn empathy, awareness, and unity, which are essential qualities of a good school.
Ultimately, this theme is more than just a message—it’s a call to action for our entire community. It reminds us to embrace one another, show kindness, and stand together in power and pride to create a brighter, more inclusive future.
On Friday, October 3rd, our staff and students celebrated Nigerien Independence Day. Staff wore green and white to mark the occasion, and our catering team served themed meals inspired by global cuisine. It was a wonderful opportunity for our students to explore and enjoy the rich diversity that makes our local Luton school such a special place to learn.
This is only the beginning of our celebrations. We look forward to continuing to promote visibility, individual worth, change, and hope throughout the month.
At The Stockwood Park Academy, we are proud to be a good school in Luton that celebrates every culture and empowers every student to stand firm in power and pride.
